“Big Papi’s” palace is off the market. Former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz and his wife, Tiffany, have found a buyer for their Weston mansion.
The six-bed, six-bath estate, which is set on 2.15 acres, just sold for $3.5 million to Kenneth and Deborah Stevens, according to Southern Middlsex County Registry of Deeds. Kenneth Stevens is a Weston-based property developer for Kenneth Stevens Custom Homes.
“I love this house. It’s a 20-year-old house, and it needs a complete renovation from my standards, which is what I’m going to do. I haven’t decided whether I’ll move into it. I do live in Weston, but in a smaller home. I haven’t decided whether I’ll move in this or one.
“I just got great vibes from it. David is a great family man, and his daughter was still living there and she’s lovely. She’s the only one I met. I just got great vibes from the whole place.”
“The Ortiz family was a pleasure to work with during the sale of their Weston home, and I know the Ortizes made great memories in it. Sixteen Driftwood Lane is a unique find in today’s market, and I wish the new owner much happiness here,” said Melissa Dailey of Coldwell Banker Realty in Wellesley, the listing agent.
The stone-and-shingle “Adirondack-style” home is tucked behind a long, gated driveway that ends in a roomy circular driveway. Built in 2002, the 7,714-square-foot house welcomes guests through a stone entryway and continues into a comfortable living room with a stone fireplace. The family room off the kitchen also features a stone fireplace.
The kitchen has a big island, custom cabinetry, a walk-in party, and top-of-the-line appliances. A cozy half-circle breakfast nook sits under windows, making for perfect coffee mornings.
The formal dining room is filled with natural light, thanks to a bay window.
Travel up the grand curved staircase to the second level, where you’ll find six spacious bedrooms. The primary suite boasts a sitting area, custom closets, and a stylish bathroom with a deep soaking tub, steam shower, and a dual vanity.
Of course, you can’t miss the Fenway Park room, painted Green Monster green and sporting a scoreboard. Naturally, the score reflects the Sox beating the New York Yankees — handily.
The home’s lower level serves as the perfect entertaining area, especially for any loyal Red Sox fan. Custom-built with materials from Fenway Park, the green screening room features rows of black leather recliners facing a stage and is equipped with a film projector. There’s another massive room in the basement that has a brick wet bar, as well as a gym and wine cellar.
Outside, there’s a stone patio, an in-ground pool, and a hot tub. The property also has an attached three-car garage.
The home was listed at $6,300,000 in February 2019, and again in 2020 at $5,495,000. Since then, it has undergone several price adjustments, ultimately landing at $4,025,000 in October 2020, according to records. The property held a well-publicized estate sale last year, when everything from a statue of a guitar-playing frog to Ortiz’s old batting gloves were up for sale, Boston.com previously reported.
